Mustafa Akyurek, MD

Dr. Mustafa Akyurek is an associate professor of surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a cosmetic and plastic surgeon at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He also serves as the director of microsurgery for the Medical School’s Plastic Surgery Program.
Dr. Akyurek puts the latest research findings into practice, ensuring the UMass Memorial Cosmetic Surgery Center’s patients benefit from key advancements in the field.
He graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey, where he also completed a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery and received his PhD in reconstructive microsurgery. In 2004, he joined the faculty of the UMass Memorial Medical Center Division of Plastic Surgery. He is also highly regarded in his field:

Dr. Akyurek specializes in cosmetic surgery procedures, including:

Dr. Akyurek also specializes in breast reconstruction after masectomy, facial aesthetic surgery and short-scar breast reduction, one of the few cosmetic surgeons in the Worcester area to perform this surgery.
Dr. Akyurek has been listed in America’s Top Plastic Surgeons. He also received a first-place award in a scientific essay contest sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This award recognized his groundbreaking work on neural-island flaps. These skin flaps, which are nourished by a nerve only, represent a breakthrough in reconstructive plastic surgery.
